A Yuba City, California driver can expect to be charged in connection with a drunk driving accident that killed two of his close friends.
The accident occurred on Highway 99 near Live Oak, Calif., Nov. 16, is just one more reminder that we take unnecessary risks with the lives of people closest to us when drinking and driving. The driver in this car accident 20 years of age, Umar Abdul Hay, returned from a party-night with his friend Rafael Courtland Matthew Walker and Stephen Fair. Initial reports say it must have fell asleep at the wheel, causing the car to zip though a stop sign. A little later, it crashed with a Ford Explorer. The shock caused car must push harder in a nearby orchard. Both Walker and the Fair were pronounced dead at the scene of car accident. Both were 20 years old.
There was the only survivor, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Now we can expect to be charged with murder vehicle and involuntary crime of driving under the influence causing injury. He has no criminal record, but could be looking at a minimum of 6 months prison if convicted.
The reactions of Walker and the parents of the fair were a study in contrast. The father is outraged at the Fair the idea of a six-month sentence for the man he holds responsible for killing his son, while Walker's mother, who is a member of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) insists that the prison sentence is not an appropriate sentence. Last Friday, the families of two victims attended a memorial service celebrating their lives.
You have to understand the anger Richard Fair. Matthew was her only child, and if the two victims in the car also had consumed alcohol or not, the fact is that there are only was in charge of driving home. At 20, the hay is looking at an unredeemable blemish on his record. This young man has a life ahead of him, and voluntarily is projected a shadow on their ambitions and their future through their negligence actions. You have to have to deal with a lifetime of guilt for the death of his two friends.
Consume Alcohol remains a problem, and is cited as a factor in too many drunk driving accidents in California so we can have a debate on the reduction age drinking seriously, as proposed by the deans of the university many. What needs to address is reducing the drinking age and give every 18 years of age in California carte blanche with alcohol, but a joint effort of parents, university administrators and the community. In Yuba City, for example, many parents including Walker's mother, Jean Hammond, believes the area not only provides adequate recreational opportunities for youth to vent. The results from underage drinking as that which took place here, and the tragic accidents of drunk drivers are derived from these.
