What causes purple fringe? I get a purple ring around high-contrast areas.?

I get a ring purple around high-contrast areas. This usually happens with my Tamron 55-300mm lens. Do you know why this happens or how to correct?

It's like Dawg said. I'll add that the "cheapest" of the lens, the more pronounced the band tends to be purple. Companies tend to tolerate the imperfections for a lower price. The Tamron 55-300mm is considered the entry level side. Get a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 or Canon equivalent (depending on the camera you have) and you'll notice the purple finging either nonexistent or barely detectable. Tamron I'm not knocking it … make some big lenses at an affordable price … I only know that no company makes a 100% perfect lens in length everyfocal. Some are better than others. It's a good idea to do a lot of research before buying a new lens.
