The only experience that should not obscure, while in Kerala the boat races are exciting. Come August / September and see the folly flag vessels off the snake for Vallam Kali Alappuzha. Race Vallam Kali is one of the events spectacular cultural Kerala that attract tourists from everywhere.
The event is promoted as a major tourist attraction in the state of Kerala. It takes out on the last day of the seven long days of the Onam festival and is celebrated with great fervor and force. These dark, always look stylish seating boats loaded with fiber coconut, copra and cashew, coconut on the island but is now fully aligned glory harnessed to compete with one another. Before the race, you could see the possessions of ceremonial water with spectacular floats. The credit for the popularity of the race Vallam Kali goes to the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was so impressed by this colorful event Nehru who instituted a trophy for the race.
The race is thrilling enough for the river on fire with thousands of enthusiasts who visit the place to enjoy the event. The main highlight of the event are vessels of 100 feet long that are beautifully decorated by local craftsmen, especially for this event. These vessels are popularly known as the "snake boats and can accommodate 100 people at once. Usually the musicians and singers to accompany the paddlers to keep participants with good humor.
There is an interesting story behind the colored race boat Vallam Kali. The story goes that after 10 kilometers upstream Pamba Aranmulla the chief of the Mana Katoor, a family Nambudiri offered his daily prayers, and was waiting to feed a poor man to complete the ritual. After waiting for a long time, the Brahmins closed his eyes and started praying to Lord Krishna. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw a ragged boy before him. The Brahman Love gave the child a bath, a new set of clothes and a sumptuous meal.
To the complete surprise of the Brahmins, the boy disappeared after Food. He looked for the boy and saw him in the temple Aranmulla but he disappeared again. Namboodari the conclusion that it was ordinary boy, but God same. To commemorate the event, began Aranmulla bring food to the temple every year during the time of Onam. And to protect food from pirates river snake Kovilans or vessels used to accompany the procession. According to the tradition gained popularity, the largest number of snake boats leading to the custom of a large ship carnival Snake called Carrera.
The objective behind the boat race is not winning the trophy, but the promotion of unity and brotherhood bondness among the people. Despite the frenetic lifestyle, love racing these boats in Kerala still alive in the hearts of people.
